Art

Mission statement

To offer all learners opportunities for self-expression and creativity in a broad sense. Success at Key Stage Four and Five is underpinned by a strong emphasis on drawing and application of the formal elements throughout Key Stage Three. Teachers look to challenge and nurture confident, independent learners who enjoy the subject, and who have an understanding of the context in which their work adds to the universal discourse of visual language

The link below allows you to see when topics may be covered; this is a guide for information only and has the potential to change as the year progresses.

Homework, class work, research work and drawing studies will be included in the assessment.

Key Stage 4

  • Encourage students to develop their ideas through investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and cultural understanding.
  • Encourage students to be able to explore and refine their ideas through experimenting and selecting appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes.
  • Encourage students taught to able to record ideas, observations and insights relevant to their intentions in visual and/or other forms.
  • Encourage students to present a personal, informed and meaningful response demonstrating analytical and critical understanding, realising intentions and, where appropriate, making connections between visual, written, oral or other elements.

Assessment at Key Stage Four is guided by the Assessment Objectives released by the Exam Board OCR. Student work is marked in four distinct areas; Development, Refinement, Recording and Presentation. Teachers guide students in a range of tasks which will help students meet all four assessment objectives by the end of the two year course. All work produced on the two year course is put forward for final assessment. Levels of attainment are communicated to students using the schools Assessment Point systems.

I love researching different artists and incorporating their style into my own work. I love how we get to experiment with different mediums on the A Level course as I am able to develop my own style. Overall, I love Art and feel I have progressed well on the course so far.

Jessica (Year 12)

I love that especially now in Art we can experiment more with a variety of different mediums to find our own style. Our teachers have really helped me develop my Art skills over the last 2 years.
