Careers Carousel 2022

Every year we host a Careers Carousel where we invite employers and further education providers into the school to showcase the career pathways they offer and inspire our students to think about their future career options.

The aim of the day is to provide meaningful encounters for students to engage with Employers, Apprenticeship providers, Colleges and Further Education providers. The event often inspires our students to investigate further into the careers the employers have on offer and we are very proud that some of our students secure work with the attending employers after they leave us.

Our 2022 Careers Carousel took place on Thursday 29th September. With a mix of employers and educational institutions in attendance, the school Hall was full to the brim with talk of careers and future prospects. To name a few of the employers in attendance there was; Weston Homes, MACE Construction, Quantum Care Home, Nockolds Solicitors, ROCHE, Princess Alexandra Hospital, the RAF, Police, Stansted Airport college and more. We had colleges in too to give information to our students about further educational courses; Stansted Airport College, Harlow College and Cambridge Regional College.

The day started with an atmosphere of excitement and students were eager to engage with the various organisations about post 16 options. Employers were putting the finishing touches to their stalls as the first students enthusiastically lined up outside to see what awaited them. Year 9, 10 and 11 got the chance to visit multiple employers throughout their allocated time slots. Year 12 and Year 13 students were invited to attend the carousel during their lunch break.

The buzz of career talk filled the air as students gained as much information as they could. Conversation and questions flowed, “What qualifications do I need to be able to do this?”, “what skills are best for this?” together with “Is there any work experience that you think would be helpful?”. Students absorbed the information ready to be used again in the future when planning their next steps. It was a delight to hear some of the questions they were asking and to hear the students saying they had found a career they would like to pursue when they were older.

At the end of the day when the last of the stalls were being packed away, a sense of calm descended on the Hall once again. A huge amount of information had been shared throughout the day, and it felt like it had made a real difference to some students.

Feedback from the students demonstrated the positive impact this careers event had on shaping their future paths;

..."The amount of diverse jobs and options presented to me that helped me understand all my options going forward.".... (Year 11 Student)

 We’re very much looking forward to our 2023 Careers Carousel.
