Remote Education

WELCOME! This page contains the key information that students and parents need in order to make the most of 'remote education' during this time of National Lockdown.

We hope this page will give you most of the information you need but if you do still have a question/concern, in the first instance please send any questions to the relevant teacher, tutor, subject leader or learning coordinator. You can contact staff by emailing info@stmarys.net and putting the name of the member of staff in the subject heading. If the issue remains unresolved then please contact Mr Johnston (t.johnston@stmarys.net) or Mr Celano (a.celano@stmarys.net)

WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATUS OF REMOTE EDUCATION?

As per our Remote Education Policy we are currently at level B4 - this means that due to the wider closure of schools, with most people working at home (including teachers’ families), we expect to provide 50% or more ‘Live’ lessons on MS Teams. The Department for Education have published a template to support schools in letting students and parents know what to expect from their school. Please click here to see the St Mary's version of this document.

WHAT WEBSITES DO TO STUDENTS NEED TO ACCESS REMOTE LEARNING?

WHAT WILL REMOTE LEARNING LOOK LIKE?

All teachers will use Microsoft Teams to calendar live lessons and assignments, which will also be reflected on ShowMyHomework; all interactions with staff will be through these online platforms. Students are well versed in their use, however if there are any concerns students should email their class teacher for support. It is expected that students have their cameras on, and their microphones off until they are required to participate. You can expect your child to receive five hours of work each day; this will be through a mixture of direct instruction (or live teaching) and task-based learning (the teacher will be available online). All work will be in line with the normal curriculum, adjusted where necessary for on-line learning. Students will be required to provide evidence of some of the work they have done, and so uploading work to be marked will be a regular expectation.

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL TIMETABLE DURING REMOTE EDUCATION?

While all students are learning remotely we have simplified the timetable as follows:

WHAT WILL STUDENTS BE STUDYING?

We have produced a 'Personalised Learning Checklist' (PLC) for each year groups that outlines what students will be covering in each subject. We recommend that students print these out or save a digital copy and update it as they complete each topic. Click here to see the current PLCs.

WILL STUDENT WORK BE MARKED?

It is expected that during this lockdown, we will continue to mark student work in line with our school policy. This means that students should receive diagnostic feedback and time to develop twice this half term.

WILL FORM TIME AND ASSEMBLIES CONTINUE?

Students will continue to receive pastoral and spiritual contact and direction through our pastoral phone calls, weekly assemblies, and daily registration. Registration and assembly will begin at 8.45am, attendance is compulsory, and cameras should again be on. It is vitally important that students remain in contact with their form tutors during the continuation of such challenging circumstances.

WHAT HAPPENS IS A MEMBER OF STAFF IS ABSENT?

Should a member of staff be absent, work will be posted on Show My Homework for completion. This way, students will continue to have five hours of work to complete each day. If the member of staff is not able to set cover work, the Subject Leader will provide work again on Show My Homework. The subject leader should be the first port of call if there are any concerns over work provided.
