Remote Education

Welcome! This page contains the key information that students and parents need in order to make the most of 'remote education' during this time in the event of any student being required to self-isolate due to a positive COVID result, and being well enough to engage with education.

We hope this page will give you most of the information you need but if you do still have a question/concern, in the first instance please send any questions to the relevant teacher, tutor and subject leader or learning coordinator. You can contact staff by emailing info@stmarys.net and putting the name of the member of staff in the subject heading. If the issue remains unresolved then please contact Mr Lee Bradbury (l.bradbury@stmarys.net) or Mr Johnston (t.johnston@stmarys.net)

WHAT IS THE CURRENT STATUS OF REMOTE EDUCATION?

As per our Remote Education Policy we are currently at level B1 – This means that schools are open as usual. Pupils who have COVID or COVID symptoms should isolate in line with current Government guidance, these pupils will receive remote education. The Department for Education have published a template to support schools in letting students and parents know what to expect from their school.  Please click here to see the St Mary's version of this document.

WHAT WEBSITES DO TO STUDENTS NEED TO ACCESS REMOTE LEARNING?

Office 365 - For student access to Teams and Outlook

ShowMyHomework - For Student access to homework tasks

If a student is struggling to login to either of the services above they must email info@stmarys.net and put 'Login Request' as the subject heading

Sora - Students with an 'Accelerated Reader' lesson can use the Sora App for free access to eBooks.

WHAT WILL REMOTE LEARNING LOOK LIKE?

As a minimum pupils will receive lesson resources and instructions via Microsoft Teams   from their teachers. Years 10-13 may be able to join ‘live lessons’ via teams as well.

You can expect your child to receive five hours of work each day; this may be through a mixture of direct instruction and task-based learning (the teacher will be available online). All work will be in line with the normal curriculum, adjusted where necessary for on-line learning. Students will be required to provide evidence of some of the work they have done, and so uploading work to be marked will be a regular expectation.

WHAT IS THE SCHOOL TIMETABLE DURING REMOTE EDUCATION?

While all students are learning remotely we have simplified the timetable please click on the link below:

School Timetable

WHAT WILL STUDENTS BE STUDYING?

Pupils will be following their normal curriculum in full, therefore any time off should have a minimal impact upon pupils learning.

WILL STUDENT WORK BE MARKED?

We will continue to mark student work in line with our school policy. This means that students should receive diagnostic feedback and time to develop each half term.

WILL FORM TIME CONTINUE?

Students will continue to receive pastoral and spiritual contact and direction through our pastoral phone calls and daily registration where possible. It is vitally important that students remain in contact with their form tutors and learning co-ordinators during the continuation of such challenging circumstances.

WHAT HAPPENS IS A MEMBER OF STAFF IS ABSENT?

Should a member of staff be absent, work will be posted on Show My Homework for completion. This way, students will continue to have five hours of work to complete each day. If the member of staff is not able to set cover work, the Subject Leader will provide work again on Show My Homework. The subject leader should be the first port of call if there are any concerns over work provided
