School Meals

St Mary's operates a ‘Cashless’ system in the canteen. This means that in order to purchase food students must have money ‘added’ to their account via the website www.ParentPay.com. The Cashless system is the most secure way of ensuring students spend money on food and drink bought in the canteen (no ‘lost’ or ‘stolen’ money, or money spent in Tesco before school). Once in the canteen students ‘purchase’ their food using their thumbprint to link to their account. This system is provided by Civica and is highly secure and meets all legislation relating to data protection. The Cashless system also allows us to provide ‘Free School Meals’ to those who are entitled without the stigma of carrying a separate card (if you want to know if your child qualifies for free school meals please click on this link Free School Meals.  In line with Catholic tradition we keep Fridays ‘meat-free’ while retaining a wide variety of options to eat. This helps us to honour the request of the Catholic Church in England and Wales to abstain from meat on Fridays, as an act of penance in honour of the suffering of our Lord Jesus on Good Friday.

St Mary's Catholic School have retained our 5* rating since (November 2017). Fabulous healthy food served with the occasional treats such as bacon rolls at break time!

 Breakfast Club

We re- launched Breakfast Club after half term. We have new caterers and a newly refurbished and enlarged canteen, and Breakfast Club takes place in the canteen, Tuesday and Thursdays, and will be open to all students from 8.10am onwards right through to 8.55 if they wish.

As your child is in receipt of Free School Meals, we have topped up your child’s parentpay account with £10 to be spent £1 a day on Tuesdays and Thursdays on breakfast, followed by time spent on homework and study in a relaxed and supportive environment. The club is supervised by staff and supported by Sixth Form students and spare stationery is available should it be needed.

For £1 your child will be able to buy either a bacon roll or a hot chocolate/fruit juice and piece of toast/fruit. Your child needs have no embarrassment as they will purchase their breakfast in the same way as their peers, so please do encourage them to give it a try.

The Canteen will be open for breakfast from 8.10am on these days and students should only come into school before 8.15 if they wish to use the canteen facilities.

Feedback to this initiative will be very welcome- we want to make this work for your child, so please do encourage them to let me know your ideas and how they find it.
