Music Events 2018/19

Year 9 - Battle of the Bands -2018

Over 35 students participated in Battle of the Bands in January and it was very well attended by the rest of the year group. The judges were Georgina Jackson, Lucy Hay and John Hodgson and they deliberated for a long time until deciding on the winners and runners up (pictured) who received a medal each and their pictures up on the music department wall.

Year 9 - Battle of the Bands -2019

Following on from last year's successful Year 9 Battle of the Bands, this year's event, packed with students and staff, took place in the main school hall. Seven different bands participated and competition was fierce as the standard was amazingley high and students had worked really hard over the 6 week "Musical Futures" project, to ensure their cover songs were well rehearsed and in time.  We had a very ecletic mix of music ranging from Beyonce's "Halo" to John Denver's "Country road" and Drake's " God's Plan" to name but a few.  The sixth form judges had the very tough decision of picking winners and runners up, and both bands then preformed in the winter Concert on the 30th January.  all those that performed were awarded a certificate with the winners and runners-up being presented with an engraved gold or silver medal.  All in all, another hugely successful event for the music department.

Spring Music Concert – March 2018

The Spring concert was a great success and had the highest audience numbers yet. Items included Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag, an Ariana Grande number, a John Williams medley and some Michael Jackson, amongst many others. Students performed superbly and to a high standard and took the time at the end to chat to members of Elmhurst Care Home, who came to join us for the evening. Rehearsals are already underway for the next Autumn Concert in November.

Winter Music Concert - February 2019

The Winter Concert was a great success, we had a huge selection of acts from an accordion solo to the school choir singing Amy Winehouse's classic "Valerie" and "This is me" from the much loved " Greatest Showman."

This year's programme included the largest number of students we have had in years working together to deliver a calm and delightful musical atmosphere.  We decided to include the winners and runners up of Battle of the Bands 2019.

This concert was a huge success with the tech team and the Year 10 GCSE class working so efficiently and professionally, as well as all of the talented performers taking the time to rehearse and prepare their songs for this special event.  I would also like to thank Miss Mathews , Mrs Tatman and all the staff involved, who made sure the evening ran smoothly.

We would like to especially congratulate Ben Year 11 on his stunning performance of Chopin's nocturne in B minor and 6th former's Maddie, Lucy and Holly for their wonderful trio performance.
