Design Technology
Key Stage 3
During Key Stage 3 pupils will be taught in all the material areas in a yearly rotation. The work undertaken encourages the acquisition of practical skills and expertise with the knowledge of food, textiles, wood, metal and plastic.
- During food lessons the emphasis is on healthy eating and the development of different dishes through the acquisition of catering skills.
- During textile lessons skills will be taught through focused practical tasks leading to a design task based upon the study of different topics such as culture and design movements.
- During workshop product design lessons pupils will again learn practical skills through focused tasks in wood, metal and plastic, leading to design tasks that will test their understanding of the materials properties and a finished, realised functioning outcome.
